Going behind the sticker
Chiquita’s blue sticker is synonymous with bananas, appearing on more than 10 billion Chiquita bananas sold globally every year. But there’s so much more beyond the blue sticker you see. In its latest sustainability report, Flag worked with Chiquita to take audiences behind the scenes to reveal the people and stories involved in banana production, from farm to fruit bowl.
Sharing stories from farm to fruit bowl
The challenge
With roots dating back to 1870, Chiquita is a leading global banana company. Its iconic blue sticker has been a symbol of quality and taste for over 70 years. But what goes on behind the sticker to make sure that those involved in the production of the bananas reap the benefits and that Chiquita bananas can continue to be enjoyed for years to come?
Strengthened disclosure and digestible content
The solution
Through the 2024/25 sustainability report, we took audiences behind the blue sticker to share Chiquita’s goals, successes and ongoing challenges. We offered a behind-the-scenes look at the story of the company’s bananas from farm to fruit bowl, and included Q&As with key partners in Chiquita’s value chain. We also advised on new photography for use in the report and beyond to bring these stories to life. Altogether, we enhanced the report design, narrative flow and storytelling.
At every stage, we guided Chiquita on where to add substance to its reporting and how to bring key stats and messaging to the fore. This included having fresh divider pages for each of the three pillars and creating a new highlights page, giving an at-a-glance summary of key progress. We also offered guidance on ways to increase transparency related to human rights and labour approach and challenges. As a result, Chiquita produced its first UNGPRF Index this year, marking an important milestone.
Alongside the report, we created three new infographics, each one focusing on an area of Chiquita’s strategy. We used a bright and bold design to align with the playful consumer brand and to help make complex data points on progress both engaging and understandable.




Elevating the message
The result
The sustainability report and infographics launched at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, one of the produce sector’s largest calendar events. Since launching, Chiquita has used the new report messaging to develop a set of highly visual consumer-facing web pages to elevate its ‘behind the blue sticker’ storytelling and reach a broader audience.
