Extraordinary impact reporting

HP believes that companies should do more than make a profit. They should make the world a better place. With a vision for a world where innovation drives extraordinary contributions to humanity, HP’s latest Sustainable Impact Report needed to be extraordinary.

Enhanced disclosure and a new philosophy

The challenge

We’ve partnered with HP since 2018 to produce industry-leading sustainable impact reporting. The goal in 2023 was to improve storytelling, to increase the ease at which readers absorb report content, to better tell HP’s circularity story and to elevate the design concept even further. To accomplish this, we developed a narrative focused on business value and societal impact with a refreshed design concept.

End-to-end support

The process

Flag provided end-to-end support across HP’s sustainable impact reporting suite, including consultancy, content planning, copywriting, proofreading, quality checks, design and artwork production – all utilising the Workiva platform. To strengthen disclosure, we provided strategic consultancy, gap analyses and production of multiple reporting framework indices, including SASB, GRI, UNGPRF and UN SDGs. We developed new storytelling elements, including goal dashboards, spotlight stories and new infographics focusing on human rights due diligence and circularity. The refreshed report design concept allowed for readers to more easily understand the content, while still feeling like HP’s Sustainable Impact Report.

A robust, comprehensive and beautifully designed reporting suite

The solution

The project spanned HP’s full reporting suite, including the 208-page 2023 Sustainable Impact Report, 54-page Executive Summary, eight regional executive summaries and multiple reporting framework indices.

The storytelling, delivered through callouts, case studies and hero stories, helped to bring HP’s programmes and initiatives to life by showing clear connections to real people. Using powerful imagery, playful graphics and thoughtful pacing, each document creates a visual journey for readers. At the same time, they foreground HP’s world-class sustainability disclosures.

What we did

  • Reporting consultancy and gap analyses.
  • Content planning, copywriting, editing and proofreading.
  • Creative concept, design and artwork production.
  • Project management.
