  • We are looking for an experienced, expert and commercially minded Consultant/Senior Account Director to join Flag’s Reporting and Sustainability Advisory team, supporting our growing client base in Japan.

    This is a part‑time/contract role initially, with the potential to increase hours or move to a full‑time position as the business grows.

    The role

    You will be responsible for:

    Client leadership and growth

      • Creating and maintaining strong, long‑term client relationships.
      • Achieving agreed revenue targets.

    Project and client oversight

      • Overseeing all client and project activity, ensuring high standards and timely delivery.
      • Briefing and liaising with Flag’s UK‑based production teams.

    Sustainability and ESG expertise

      • Providing technical ESG and sustainability expertise across client projects.
      • Helping to differentiate Flag’s offer through deep knowledge of sustainability reporting and best practice.

    Business development and profile‑building

      • Supporting pitch conversations and proposal development.
      • Working with the Country Director to grow Flag’s profile in Japan, including:
        • representing Flag at conferences and events (in person and online)
        • contributing to thought leadership and insight pieces.

    The ideal candidate will:

    • have experience across sustainability and integrated reporting in Japan and globally, ideally from the consultancy/agency side
    • be based in Japan (Tokyo ideally) or be able to work virtually during the Japanese working day
    • preferably have experience in and knowledge of the following:
      • global sustainability reporting frameworks, standards and legislation, e.g., ISSB, SSBJ, TCFD, SASB, GRI, UNGPRF and ESRS (CSRD)
      • corporate financial and ESG reporting trends and best practices
      • client relationships, project leadership and new business development
      • design, writing and production, in artwork and using online reporting platforms for corporate reports.
    • education in a related area, such as environmental management or corporate responsibility, is a benefit
    • be bilingual Japanese/English-speaking.

    Initially this is a part-time/contract role; there is potential to move to more hours/full time based on business growth.
